Frequently Asked Questions – Studying in the Czech Republic

How to choose a suitable and high-quality preparatory language programme for foreigners to study at a Czech university?

Focus your attention on the following factors:

  • Ensure that the program is organized in cooperation with state educational institutions, such as universities.
  • The program should include not only general Czech but also specialized language and terminology tailored to your field of interest, such as economics, business, and finance.
  • The program should be sufficiently intensive (at least 20+ hours per week) while also allowing time to prepare for studying specialized subjects. Excessive workload (e.g., 30+ hours per week) may, on the contrary, prove counterproductive in terms of efficiency. Choose the program length based on your language experience. If you’re a beginner, opt for a one-year program that covers the language from beginner levels (A0–A1) to B1–B2 (typically required for university studies).
  • The program should include preparation for university entrance exams, including mock tests in the language as well as in specialized subjects, such as mathematics, economics, etc.
  • Look for programs that offer support for international students, such as consultations regarding the visa process, quality accommodation, and guidance on university admissions.
  • Prefer Prague as the political, economic, and cultural center. Be cautious with courses held in Prague but affiliated with institutions outside the city (e.g., Brno, Ostrava, Ústí nad Labem), as this may lead to logistical complications.
  • Choose a program with a good price-to-quality ratio. A higher price does not always guarantee better quality, but very low prices might indicate subpar standards.
